Job Description/Responsibilities

The Sazerac House Assistant General Manager manages the on-site guest experience, from start to finish, including the admission process, tour experience, and retail offering. They are responsible for maximizing revenue opportunities, through the strategic growth of gift shop performance and paid Tours and Tastings. The AGM builds and develops a goal-oriented team that delivers a world-class experience to all guests.

  • Attract visitors to the Sazerac House by supporting its mission of becoming the number one Thing to Do in New Orleans
  • Conduct PDS reviews with direct reports to improve skills and performance utilizing PDS as tool to conduct optimal performance discussions, articulate consistent skill evaluations, recommend actions and tactics, and measure progress. Support the widespread use of PDS within the finance organization. Promote and support Company culture within the finance organization.
  • Utilizing data and guest feedback, determine necessary changes to the front-line operation through a process of continuous improvement. Identify and execute changes to staffing levels, gift shop merchandise, guest experience elements and pricing strategies based on findings. Use insights to help develop and train the team.
  • Create necessary processes and procedures for the gift shop, experience team, front door team and third-party functions including – but not limited to – Security and Cleaning. Equip all team members with the tools and resources to be able to be successful in their roles. Ensure compliancy protocols are executed flawlessly.
  • Handle visitor’s inquiries and complaints on a timely manner and with proper follow-up to ensure satisfaction.
    Monitor standards through external review sites including TripAdvisor, Google and Yelp and through internal systems like Avius touchscreen surveys.
  • Ensure that world class customer service is provided to all visitors by building and managing a team to success. Identify and develop talent; motivate individuals and teams to deliver against both short and long term goals; structure coaching and feedback to improve performance issues.
  • Ensure the gift shop delivers as an extension of the Sazerac brands – highlighting product in an appealing way. Review performance frequently, making informed decisions to boost sales via merchandising strategies, inventory decisions, and team member incentives. Ensure the gift shop is tailored for the guest of tomorrow.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety standards including – but not limited to – Personal Safety, Food Safety, Responsible Vendor, Quality and Environmental Policies and Practices. Develop, monitor and maintain emergency plans - hurricane, evacuation, and other hazards.
  • Exhibit exemplary business acumen and P&L control, through the ongoing management of operational expenditure and the evaluation of opportunities to drive revenue growth. Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budget recommendations and forecasts.
  • Ensure front line teams have a working knowledge of Public Relations efforts and press releases in order to address consumer inquiries. Keep PR Manager informed of any questions/comments related to Sazerac news from consumers that is out of the ordinary.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Ability and willingness to work non-traditional hours (nights/weekends)
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to work as a team as well as self-directed
  • Ability to project a professional image
  • Working knowledge of MS Office Products (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of an org
  • Bachelors Degree or commensurate experience
  • 3 years relevant experience (minimum)
  • 3 years experience in Customer Service or Consumer Affairs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time
  • 2 years Experience in monthly inventory and accounting closes
  • 3 years Experience in customer service, retail

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to pick up and/or move objects up to 25 pounds without assistance
  • In-person job attendance
