Job Description/Responsibilities

Bio: The Director of Environmental Compliance will lead, develop, and implement the company’s environmental strategies, policies, and initiatives to ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws and regulations and promote a culture of environmental stewardship, compliance, and sustainable development across the Company’s operations.

 

  • Conduct PDS reviews with direct reports to improve skills and performance utilizing PDS as tool to conduct optimal performance discussions, articulate consistent skill evaluations, recommend actions and tactics, and measure progress. Support the widespread use of PDS and promoted company culture within the organization.
  • Oversee and develop team of environmental engineers to effectively and efficiently maintain compliance with environmental policies Maintain and enhance a compliance management system, establishing processes and controls to minimize risks of non-compliance and prevent recurrence of compliance issues. Manage environmental risks associated with capital expenditure (CapEx) projects, developing risk mitigation plans and defining responsibilities.
  • Identify key environmental and sustainability metrics for organization-wide tracking. Develop systems to collect, analyze, and report data, facilitating rapid response to both internal and external stakeholder needs. Proactively monitor and assess emerging trends in reporting requirements and develop effective system to manage compliance.
  • Provide overall leadership for the company’s environmental program, ensuring alignment with Sazerac’s environmental policies, regulatory standards, and best practices. Develop and promote a culture of sustainability across all locations. Shape and advocate for the company’s long-term environmental and sustainability vision and leverage understanding of environmental regulations to enhance operational effectiveness. Understand and anticipate developments in environmental regulations and proactively plan to address such developments through engagement with relevant operations stakeholders.
  • Provide mentorship, training and opportunity for the individuals in the department to grow within Sazerac based on their career development plan. Knows the career goals and plans for the team and works to develop and retain key successors in the organization.
  • Act as the primary point of contact with regulatory agencies, fostering positive relationships to facilitate permit processes and negotiations. Engage with industry associations, peer organizations, and other relevant stakeholders to represent the company’s interests and stay informed of industry developments.
  • Foster a continuous improvement mindset within the environmental team, encouraging innovative approaches to sustainability challenges. Evaluate and implement new technologies, methodologies, and industry best practices that enhance the company’s environmental performance and sustainability initiatives. Lead educational programs and training for staff to enhance awareness of environmental policies, standards, and sustainability goals.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Ability to communicate with all levels of an org
  • Proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams in a collaborative and cross-functional environment.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities, with experience in data-driven decision-making.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and related compliance experience
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex environmental concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong project management capabilities and experience in overseeing complex, multi-site environmental initiatives.
  • Bachelors Degree in a scientific discipline and/or environmentally related field
  • 10 years relevant experience (minimum)
  • 5 years factory experience and/or division, regional, or corporate environmental experience (minimum).

PREFERRED

  • Master's degree in related field
  • Experience in Alcohol Beverage Industry or CPG overall

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions
  • Ability to travel (up to 25%)
