Job Description/Responsibilities

The Transportation Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring adherence to transportation, health, and safety regulations, including but not limited to, vehicle, facility, and worker safety, Alcohol-Drugfree-Workplace (ADFWP), and fire prevention. This role involves developing and implementing safety programs, monitoring compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and local regulations, and driving a proactive safety culture.

 

  • Ensures adherence to all transportation, health, and safety regulations; Serves as company representative to regulatory agencies and trade and professional organizations. Maintains records to comply with local, state, and federal laws and company policies; Complete oversight of driver qualification files for compliance. Manages DOT drug and alcohol testing programs and DOT Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse reporting. Provides necessary information to Legal regarding safety incidents when requested
  • Develop, implement and maintain safety programs, policies, procedures and best practices. Monitor CSA scores to identify trends and drive performance improvements; Design and conduct quarterly audits for compliance and continuous improvement. Track health, safety and performance metrics; analyze data to identify risk mitigation opportunities and develop preventative action plans. Investigate and report all accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents. Conduct root-cause analyses and implement corrective actions. Maintain DOT accident log and manage violation progressive disciplinary actions  
  • Develop and drive a safety compliance culture which is integrated through everyone's day-to-day work along with a workforce which relentlessly pursues the identification and remediation of hazards.
  • Work with team members such as claim adjusters, managed care system, doctors, and management teams, and employees to mitigate time lost from work and claims expenses, ensure effective rehabilitation after injury, and assess causes and implement plans to prevent reoccurrence. Obtain and keep current the reporting and record keeping requirements for safety and workers’ compensation. Communicate and coordinate with safety and workers’ compensation related regulatory agencies.
  • Develop, lead, and implement team member safety policies, initiatives and training programs, including driver safety and risk training
  • Efficiently manage Transportation Safety CAPEX projects within stated timeframes.
  • Provides 365/24/7 coverage and response to customer needs, serious incidents, and emergency response. Develop and implement plans for emergency events
  • Participate in development of my PDS and execute the plan to improve skills to meet job requirements.

Qualifications/Requirements

MUST

  • Bachelor's Degree in EHS or related field
  • Strong computer skills and high comfort using technology and systems
  • Detail Oriented
  • 5 years relevant experience (minimum)
  • 5 years Experience with administering a plant-wide or departmental safety program
  • Know uiia@intermodal.org; what it is and how to work with
  • Know how to file a mcs-150 and work with regulatory/risk/legal on all usdot and fmcsa filings
  • Professional and/or safety certification, i.e. asp, csp, or cds
  • Five (5) years safety experience in at least one of the following areas: industrial/occupational safety, commercial truck fleet vehicle safety, fire prevention
  • In-depth knowledge of federal motor carrier regulations and osha standards
  • Ability to understand and promote the use of new safety technologies
  • Advanced problem-solving skills and ability to apply continuous improvement methodology to safety programs
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, collaborative, and oral/written communication skills.
