Company/Location Overview

The Glenmore Distillery has been a fixture in the Owensboro Community since the late 1800s. During Prohibition, The Glenmore Distillery was fortunate enough to be one of four distilleries in the country allowed to operate on a limited scale for medicinal necessity.

 

In March of 2009 the Sazerac Company purchased the distillery and reprised the name The Glenmore Distillery. The distillery boasts one of the largest and most modern bottling facilities in the country and continues to be a sizable employer in the city of Owensboro, KY.

Job Description/Responsibilities

The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing the incoming raw materials including bottles, caps, labels, cases, etc. The Materials Manager works directly with suppliers on quality issues and supply forecast to ensure materials are on hand timely for production. The Materials Manager is expected to optimize on-hand inventory through increasing forecast accuracy and minimizing obsolete items. The Materials Manager oversees the recycling programs and drives down packaging waste alongside other operation departments.

 

  • Ensure accurate inventory control measures for all TGD bottling components within System 21. Oversee purchases of items for bottling production. Identifies and resolves discrepancies between System 21 invoices, purchase orders and receipts.
  • Ensure adherence to all Personal Safety, Food Safety, Quality and Environmental Policies and Practices. Supervise the receipt and unloading of various bottling components. Supervise receipt of goods for TGD. Verify accuracy of receipt against shipping documents; document and investigate discrepancies; ensure information is recorded accurately in company systems to update inventory records.
  • Effectively manage the scheduling/releasing and maintaining of inventory for both TGD and contract customers bottling components into System 21 accurately and on a timely basis. Ensure notification of the customer of the receipt and/or transfer of their goods occurs timely. Plan and organize the areas to maximize productivity and efficiency.
  • Meet internal customer requirements by ensuring that daily deliveries are verified and records are up to date and information is communicated in a timely manner to ensure no loss of production due to materials not received. Provide exceptional customer service by serving as a professional and friendly point of contact between vendors and TGD.
  • Provide leadership to Materials Department in a manner consistent with the culture of the company. Ensure employees are treated fairly and with respect and understand the daily commitment to company values. Ensure bottling has materials in a timely manner. Coordinate with production scheduling and suppliers to release/schedule components, ingredients and bulks for production. Maintain inventory of components, ingredients and bulks. Responsible for System 21 material/inventory transactions and maintain item master data accuracy. Participates with the NBD team to ensure materials for new products are compliant and ordered before the expected launch date of the products.
  • Trains and supervises Materials department employees to improve skills and performance. Evaluates employee performance and skill level to determine skill improvement needs and develops corrective action plans to address. Creates and develops a personal development plan to improve a skill/competency that will improve performance.
  • Identify and recommend cost saving and process improvement opportunities as it relates to the Materials Department. Manage recyclables including cardboard and plastic and oversee the arrangement and removal.
  • Responsible for Materials Department strategic plan; including the preparation of Capex requests to drive productivity improvements.

Qualifications/Requirements

MUST

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, STEM or equivalent experience
  • Requires Management experience
  • 5 years relevant experience (minimum)
  • Experience with inventory management system and lean manufacturing principles
  • Experience driving results through implementing standardization processes

PREFERRED

  • MBA
  • Experience in Alcohol Beverage Industry or CPG overall
  • 1 year Experience managing in a union environment

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to pick up and/or move objects up to 50 pounds without assistance.
