Job Description/Responsibilities

 

The Processing Supervisor leads and manages the blending/compounding operations (prep, batching) to ensure raw materials are accurately weighed, blended, and processed in accordance with formulation, food safety standards, and production schedules. This person interfaces with quality, production, maintenance, and leadership to drive consistent output, process improvements, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and schedule the prep / batching team; provide direction and coaching.

  • Ensure raw materials are picked, weighed, kitted, and staged per formulation & SOPs.

  • Oversee batch execution: blending, mixing, pumping, routing, sampling, real-time documentation.

  • Verify that all operations meet food safety, GMP, HACCP, and FSSC requirements.

  • Coordinate daily with Kitting, Production, and Quality to align schedules, materials, and priorities.

  • Monitor yields, variances, and perform root cause analysis on formulation deviations.

  • Audit batch records, verify lot traceability, and ensure corrective action for nonconformances.

  • Drive continuous improvement in processing efficiency, shrink reduction, and quality.

  • Assist with equipment changeovers, minor maintenance, and troubleshooting in collaboration with Maintenance.

  • Enforce safety standards, lead safety rounds, and promote a culture of accountability and compliance.

  • Lead or contribute to new product launches, process redesigns, and scale-up efforts.

  • Prepare reports and communicate performance metrics (yield, downtime, quality, labor) to leadership.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology, or related field.

  • Minimum 5+ years experience in a processing, compounding, or blending role in food, beverage or CPG industries.

  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience.

  • Strong knowledge of GMP, HACCP, food safety, regulatory standards, and batch record systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret chemical / ingredient specifications, batching formulas, and technical documents.

  • Competence in root cause analysis, process optimization, and problem solving.

  • Experience with ERP, batch management software, or manufacturing execution systems (MES).

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Beverage industry or liquid processing experience.

  • Certifications such as HACCP, PCQI, or similar.

  • Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, 5S methodologies.

  • Bilingual (English / Spanish).
