Job Description/Responsibilities

The Opportunity

We're looking for a hands-on horticultural leader to keep our grounds and arboretum in show condition every day of the year. As Homeplace Horticultural Supervisor, you'll lead a versatile grounds team, own seasonal planning and the daily work order system, and play a direct role in our pursuit of botanical garden accreditation. If you take pride in a landscape that thousands of guests photograph every week — and in developing the team that makes it happen — this is your role.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Lead, train, and inspect the work of the grounds team, holding horticultural practices to the highest standard
  • Safeguard the health of the Buffalo Trace plant collection and keep the plant records database and labeling current
  • Plan and execute seasonal color and landscape enhancements
  • Support garden and arboretum tours, public educational programs, and accreditation requirements
  • Partner with the Homeplace Planner/Coordinator and management on scheduling, SOP development, and contractor management
  • Pitch in on the Homeplace team's full range of work — event and holiday setup, building maintenance, and more
  • Keep safety front and center in every project

Salary range - $68,754 - $85,942

*Placement within the salary range is calculated based upon years of directly relatable experience for the position

Qualifications/Requirements

What You Bring

  • Associate degree or higher in horticulture from an accredited institution
  • 5+ years supervising or managing in the horticultural field
  • Deep plant knowledge across species, ornamental horticulture, and plant culture
  • Strong training, communication, and public-speaking skills
  • Experience with plant collections database software
  • Sharp attention to detail and a drive for results

Working Conditions

  • Lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted; work outdoors in all weather
  • 8-hour shifts on-site, with overtime as needed
