    Barton 1792 Distillery is part of Barton Brands of Kentucky, with facilities in Bardstown, Ky., Carson, Calif., and Baltimore, Md. Barton Brands is owned by the Sazerac Company, an American family-owned company based in New Orleans, La. Barton 1792 Distillery was established in 1879 and continues today as the oldest fully-operating distillery in the “Bourbon Capital of the World.”


    The distillery is located on 196 acres and includes 28 warehouses, 22 other buildings, the Morton Spring and the Tom Moore Spring.  Distilling, aging and bottling fine Bourbon whiskey are hallmarks of the historic Barton 1792 Distillery. 1792 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is produced at Barton 1792 Distillery. This small batch Bourbon whiskey is named for the year Kentucky became a state and is the recent Best of Category winner at the 2014 Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition.

    Job Description/Responsibilities

    Position: Master Distiller

    Location: Barton 1792 Distillery, Bardstown, KY


    As the Master Distiller of Barton 1792 Distillery, one is held accountable to, however not limited to, the following:

    • Maintain quality and yield requirements for Barton 1792 Distillery; ensuring the systems deliver functionality and promote quality, consistency and efficiency
    • Direct the design of systems and processes to improve the Distillery; lead effective planning and scheduling of distillation requirements
    • Direct distilling operations at Barton 1792 Distillery focusing on quality, innovation, and continuity of our distilling and aging processes
    • Promote and represent the distillery to support the Marketing effort to establish the distillery as a highly recognized and respected producer of award winning spirits
    • Lead quality efforts to efficiently and effectively operate Barton 1792 Distillery & Dry House Operations to ensure the systems deliver functionality and promote quality, consistency and efficiency; ensuring adherence to all Personal Safety, Food Safety, Quality, and Environmental Practices
    • Lead the effort to assess and optimize organizational talent/structure by redeploying, hiring and training in Distillery Operations
    • Conducts performance reviews with direct reports ensuring that the system correctly reflects performance and development needs
    • Lead safety awareness in the Distillery at Barton 1792 Distillery; direct the creation and implementation of safety procedures and initiatives
    • Produce quality products while maximizing productivity, reducing costs, and leading new initiatives.


    Required Qualifications:

    • Undergraduate Degree
    • 10 years related operational experience
    • Strong analytical and technical skills
    • Excellent oral & written communication skills
    • Experience managing in a union environment
    • Good physical health, i.e.: capable of working on your feet, sitting, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, kneeling, and squatting


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Chemistry or related degree
