    Job Description/Responsibilities

    The Sazerac Company is experiencing exponential growth and it is because of this expansion of our brands and facilities that we are now in search of a passionate technically skilled individual to work as Sazerac's Product Development Technologist. This role, while based out of Buffalo Trace Distillery in our company's brand new/state of the art laboratory, will serve all current and future Sazerac products. The Product Development Technologist role is responsible for,  however not limited to, the following:

    • Working knowledge of Sensory Evaluation Techniques, conduct taste panels to determine the statistical differences between products through the use of blind triangle tests, Duo-Trio Tests and/or Two-out-of-Five tests. Work with SCITE team on continuous improvement of current sensory techniques and programs.
    • Partering with Brand Managers, Product Development Scientist and external customers to develop and create alcoholic beverages that meet or exceed demands of customers and consumers. Develop and prepare working formulas for all products developed or purchased by the company. Work with regulatory and PD team to prepare all necessary documents for submission to the TTB for formula approval.
    • Assisting in scientific and organoleptic analyses in the Sazerac Center for Innovation & Technical Excellence lab. Support activities including taste panel execution, sample preparation and analysis, complaint investigation, inventory management, and laboratory accreditation.
    • Assisting in development, implementation and maintenance of Sazerac Quality System as it relates to New Product Development and Formulation.
    • Working under direction of PD Scientist’s and PD Manager to reduce costs of existing products (tax or ingredient or simplification) and minimize cost of making a new product.
    • Requesting flavors and ingredient samples as required for product development and ensure required documentation and pricing necessary for formula finalization.
    • Participate in writing, organizing and updating lab procedures. Follow all work instructions and provide feedback on laboratory specifications. Assist with cleaning and organizing the lab. Provide input for lab design efficiency, ergonomics, and safety. Assist with experimental design of shelf life testing.
    • Developing and maintaining Sazerac product specifications and formulation with work instructions for Processing Department in order to manufacture the product commercially.
    • Maintaining an adequate supply of developmental materials in New Product Development lab.
    • Ensuring work environment is safe and practice safe work policies of laboratory.  Ensure activities, processes, and products are compliant with government agencies' regulatory requirements including OSHA, TTB, and EPA.

    Qualifications/Requirements

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bacehlor Degree in Food Science or related field
    • At least 2 years of relevant laboratory experience
    • Demonstrated ability to work quickly and effectively in demanding situations
    • Detail oriented and demonstrated ability to perform work with high degree of accuracy
    • Strong planning and organizational skills
    • At least 21 years of age

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated creative talent and production knowledge
    • Master's degree in related field
    • Applicable Experience in Alcohol Beverage Industry
